State Farm is a recognized insurance company that offers a wide range of insurance products including auto, home, life and health. While the company is best known for its auto and home insurance, it also provides Medicare Supplement Insurance, also known as Medigap. These policies are designed to help pay for out-of-pocket expenses that Original Medicare doesn’t cover.

State Farm Medicare Supplement Overview

Medicare Supplement Insurance helps cover costs that Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) doesn’t pay, such as:

  • Medicare Part A coinsurance and hospital costs after the Part A deductible
  • Medicare Part B coinsurance or copayment
  • Part A hospice care coinsurance or copayment
  • Skilled nursing facility care coinsurance
  • Medicare Part A and B deductibles (depending on the plan)
  • Medicare Part B excess charges

State Farm Medigap Plans Offered

State Farm offers several standardized Medicare Supplement plans in select states. The most commonly available options include:

  • Plan A: Covers basic benefits like Medicare Part A coinsurance, Part B coinsurance, and the first three pints of blood.

  • Plan D: Includes everything in Plan A and also covers skilled nursing facility care coinsurance and foreign travel emergency care.

  • Plan G: Offers comprehensive basic benefits, excluding the Medicare Part B deductible.

  • Plan N: Covers many of the same services as Plan G, but with copayments for some office visits and emergency room trips.

Not all plans may be available in every state, and availability can change based on your ZIP code and eligibility.

Additional Considerations

  • Underwriting: Outside of your open enrollment period (OEP), you may be subject to medical underwriting when applying for a State Farm Medigap policy.

  • Licensed agents: State Farm policies are sold through licensed insurance agents who can explain plan options and help you understand your choices.

  • Premiums: Because Medigap plans are standardized, premium differences between companies are often based on factors like pricing method, age, gender, tobacco use and location.

State Farm offers standardized Medicare Supplement Insurance plans that help cover out-of-pocket expenses not paid by Original Medicare. While it is more widely known for other types of insurance, State Farm’s Medigap plans provide an option for those looking for supplemental coverage with the backing of an established insurance provider.
